James Rohe

Obituary of James E. Rohe

James E. Rohe, longtime resident of Nutley, NJ, peacefully died at Hackensack Hospital early on January 31, 2019. He succumbed to leukemia after living with it for more than a year.

Born in Passaic, NJ, on August 3, 1953, he spent his childhood growing up in Clifton. Jim was the first born son of Ehrhard Rohe and Jean Sciuto. He was a talented student and a creative and gregarious young person.

Early in his life, as a young adult, spouse, and father, Jim began making music and telling stories to very young children. He created his own business, Gentle Rhythms, and over the years he developed a unique educational program that supported the development of language arts and the joy of music.

Jim intuitively communicated with the very young child and easily established a rapport with native instinct and genuine love. His "once upon a time" will be missed by teachers, parents, and the children he's so dearly loved and truly respected.

An avid reader and lover of the sunshine, Jim's favorite places were his backyard, the Jersey shore, the Nutley parks, and the public library. Cooking and sharing food with his friends and family meant everything to him. He thrived on music and conversation and was an excellent self-taught guitarist.

Jim is predeceased by his mother, Jean, father, Ehrhard, and brother, William. He is survived by his wife, Anne (nee Huether), daughter, Jean, and son, Daniel.

Also surviving him are his sister, Peggy, her husband, Barry, and their children, Millie and Harry; his brother, John, sisters-in-law, Sara and Susan, their children, Nina and Ella, brother-in-law, Joe, his wife, Kate, their children, Nate and Anna, cousins Roselle, Arlene, Elaine, Sandra, Marissa, Kathy, Joe, Lola, Rebecca, Abigail, and all those with whom he shared his love.

There will be a memorial service in his honor on February 16th, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Union Congregational Church, 176 Cooper Avenue, Montclair, New Jersey.

If you wish, donations in Jim's memory to the Nutley Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad or the Nutley Public Library are appreciated. The family also plans on making a contribution in Jim's memory to the in-patient leukemia unit, 9PW at Hackensack Hospital where Jim spent more than 7 weeks.
