Obituary of Richard C. Stout

Richard C. Stout, 99, of Clifton passed away peacefully at home on October 2, 2021. Born in Berwick, PA, he has been a resident of Bloomfield and Clifton for 70 years.

Beloved husband of the late Mina Deane (Bieler) Stout, he was the devoted father of Richard D. Stout and his wife Jeanne of Toms River and the late Leslie J. Masessa;  loving grandfather of Laura Stout Gartner, Jessica Stout Pugliese, David, Elizabeth, Alexandra, Daniel and Emily Masessa, and  cherished great grandfather of Kayden J. Stout, Kennedy G. Gartner, Kameron A. Pugliese and Richard Ardal Masessa;  dear brother of Carolyn Sivilich, and the late Hurley and J. Ronald Stout, Nancy Theillon, and Patrician Lynn. He also leaves behind his closest friend and companion Donald Silverstein with whom he traveled the world from1992 to 2012 and enjoyed life to the fullest until his death.

Mr. Stout served in World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the 86th Blackhawk Infantry Division.  He was a member of the Bloomfield American Legion Post #0448.

He received his undergraduate degree from Bloomsburg University and his Master’s Degree from Columbia University.  He also completed Administrative requirements at New York University.

Mr. Stout had a 37 year career in the Bloomfield Public School system during which he taught business subjects, served as Guidance Counselor, Supervisor of Education, and Director of the Summer School Program. 

He also served as past President of the NJ Business/Technology Association, was an officer of the Board of Directors of the Essex County Federal Credit Union and presided over the Board of Directors for the Katharine Gibbs School. He was an Instructor in the Evening Division of the Drake Business College and upon retirement from the Public School System, Mr. Stout became an adjunct professor at Montclair University.

Mr. Stout had a lifelong thirst for knowledge and spent his traveling years studying the religions and cultures of the world. He was an amazing man who left a lifetime of stories and memories for his family and friends.

Funeral arrangements were private under the direction of Compassionate Cremation Services, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton.

The family would like to thank the Hackensack Meridian Hospice Program for their support and encouragement through this difficult time.
