The Life and Existence of Mecca
April 27, 1999 - May 3, 2021
On April 27, 1999, Mecca Kasim Almeen Nevels, became the firstborn son of Brandi Corrinah Jordan and Keith Hall. He was born and raised in Newark, NJ, and attended Camden Elementary and Camden Middle Schools. Self-admittedly, he was a bit diverse and introverted as a child until middle school where he found his place with a like-minded group of teens. While attending Central High School and a vocational rehabilitation program at Beth Israel Hospital, where he also worked as a floater. He also co-founded an Anime Club, which focused on promoting the Japanese culture of art and animation, with his best friend Mikey. This inspired them to create surreptitious handshakes that only his closest friends were privileged to know.
Mecca was the oldest of five brothers and loved to tickle his brothers, often spent summers and holidays in Phillipsburg and Pennsylvania with his grandparents, Willie and Pam Nevels. He loved to eat velveeta shells and cheese and all kinds of pasta. Just a couple of days before his untimely passing, he almost demolished an entire pan of ziti to himself.
He was born with Asperger’s Syndrome but never let that impose on his dreams, and it actually made him more unique and distinguished. Mecca, also known as LEVEL$ in his music, was a highly creative and multifaceted soul. Listening to his music you could absolutely tell that Pokémon and Yugioh inspired the lyrical content and songs he created.
He is survived by loving family, a host of friends and fans of his music, as far away as Japan. We all pray that Mecca’s final journey was met at a loving destination greeted by his great grandmother Ruby Draper, predeceased brother Malcolm, who also made his journey on May 3, of 2016, uncle and great-uncles, Markese, Sonny, Blondie and Mike, and his many other ancestors. His friends, Mikey, Deondre, Chazz, and Kaaji.
We love Mecca, but God loves him best, and we’re thankful that He allowed him to bless his mother and brothers with an unconditional love that will never be forgotten, leaving his grandparents and extend family with the memories that shall always be cherished. In twenty two years, he experienced all that God had destined for him and on May 3, 2021, it was his time to move onward to travel the path for whence we all must return. He is survived by his loving parents, Brandi and Antuan Jordan, his brothers, Malik, Malachi, Micah and Mason, grandparents Willie and Pamela Nevels, Aunt, Ebony Evelyn Nevels, and a myriad of cousins, great aunts and uncles.
Although he’s gone in the flesh, he left us with many memories of his frequency, so please feel free to read and listen to treasures he granted us from his heart and soul as part of his legacy.
Funeral arrangements were private under the direction of Compassionate Cremation Services, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton.
