Obituary of Marye Ruzila
Marye Ruzila (nee Trinkle) of Clifton, NJ and Sea Isle City NJ passed away on February 22, 2021 at home to be reunited with her true love, who she often referred to as the “most fabulous husband” John R. Ruzila (2015).
Marye was predeceased by her parents, George H. Trinkle Jr. (2004) and Florence Kamphausen Trinkle (2007), her brother George H. Trinkle III (2000), and her sisters-in-law Patricia Trinkle (2020), and Dorothy M. La Bue (2005).
She is survived by her husband’s siblings, Corrine Becker, Arlene Kruge, Richard Ruzila, and Ellen Coleman. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. To everyone, she was known simply as “Aunt Marye”.
She will be irrevocably missed by her brother’s four children, who she referred to as the “Trinkle Girls”, Rosemary Trinkle Baran, Dianne Trinkle, Kimberly Trinkle and Georjean Trinkle and two great nieces, Patricia, and Sydney.
Marye and her brother George were raised in the area and both settled in Clifton one house away from each other. Marye was so very proud of her family’s long history in Clifton and made sure that that her family’s legacy lived on with the stories she told her nieces.
Marye graduated from Clifton High School and was introduced to a college boy from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Rutherford and that college boy turned out to be the “the most fabulous husband” John R. Ruzila (m 1959). Marye chose to go to FDU where John and her brother George were also studying.
Over 44 years ago, Marye and Uncle John found the beautiful community of Sea Isle City (SIC) and spent a great deal of time at the “Beach House”. They were active in the local SIC scene and were one of the original founders of the Sea Isle City Taxpayer Association (SICA). Marye and John were often seen leaving the beach house in their convertible with the top down and Marye in a large rim hat taking one of their scenic ocean drives. After her husband’s death Marye was treated to many SIC driving adventures by her niece Rosemary.
Marye worked for many years as a substitute teacher but her greatest joy was being by her husband John’s side for their many adventures and travels. Marye was very proud to have been raised by a mother with a college education who also worked outside of the home. She believed in education and equal rights for women in the workforce and supported many young women in her life. She was a woman of many “firsts” one of the first women at FDU to receive a business degree (1954), one of the first women to become President of the Clifton Valley Democratic Club, one of the first woman to be a Trustee for the Passaic County Community College. She had also served as a member of the Passaic County Historical Commission. Marye, along with other friends, also assisted in the initial Clifton-Morris Canal Park efforts. She also contributed to a publication on Celiac Disease with the Lahey Clinic adding her valuable patient perspective. Marye was honored for Women’s Day by Mayor James Anzaldi for her contributions to the City (2018).
Marye believed in giving back for the many blessings that she felt had been bestowed upon her and in doing so she has left her own legacy.
The family is very grateful to the Clifton Police, Clifton Fire Department, Father Frank from Our Lady of Pompei, Paterson, EMT’s and the Community Program and Division of Palliative Care at St. Joseph’s Medical Center.
