Obituary of Ann Chiodi Robin

Ann Chiodi Robin, 91, of Mahwah, and formerly Virginia Beach, VA. Ms. Robin is survived by a sister, Rosemarie Scifres of Colorado Springs, CO; a brother Jack Chiodi and wife Ferne Lambert of Saddle River; and sister-in-law, Janice Dunn Chiodi of Mahwah. Surviving nieces and nephews in New Jersey are: Cathy and Jeff Capawana and their children Jake and Charlotte; Christy and Bill Dell’Aglio and children Olivia and Will; John and Kim Chiodi and children Rachel, Jack, and Christopher.  In Indiana: Jim and Norma Scifres and children Colin, Gabriella, Torrance and Carsten. In Colorado: Steve and Amanda Scifres and children Ty, Trace, Jada and Jude.

Ms. Robin was born in New York City in 1929, the daughter of Frank and Angela Chiodi. A 1948 graduate of Bryant University in Rhode Island, she began a business career in New York City as secretary to the Legal Counsel of LOOK magazine, 1948-53. In 1953 she joined General Telephone & Electronics Corporation (GTE) and retired from its World Headquarters in 1987, having served 34 years in various public relations positions. From 1979-87, She was Director of Corporate Giving, overseeing charitable giving programs of the GTE Foundation and GTE subsidiaries throughout the US (In 2001, GTE became Verizon Communications.)

Following retirement in 1987, she moved to Nags Head, NC and then to Virginia Beach in 1991. That year, she became a devoted volunteer fundraiser for the Virginia Symphony, serving as 1997-99 President of the Virginia Symphony League and continuing on the governing board until 2005. Moving to NJ in 2006, she joined Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church and was active in church and community activities.

Funeral arrangements were private under the direction of Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton.
